Census Records for Norfolk

Researchers with Norfolk ancestry in the 19th century are particularly fortunate in that census records for Norfolk covering 1851, 1871, 1881 and 1891 are available on CD-ROM. The 1851 Census for the counties of Norfolk, Devon and Warwickshire acted as a pilot project for the much larger 1881 UK Census Index Project carried out in conjunction with the Federation of Family History Societies (FFHS).

A list of Census records held at Kirby Hall is available here.

For those interested in acquiring CD-ROM of the available census is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You need not be a member of the LDS Church to purchase the CD-ROM which is inexpensive compared to some other genealogy indexes. A partial collection of census transcripts is also available from the FreeCEN website, with details of progress in transcribing census records available from the Norfolk FreeCEN Project page.
