Norfolk Family History Society

The Norfolk Family History Society welcomes people with family history, genealogy, and local history interests in Norfolk. Through our members, we are also keen to encourage wider access to genealogical resources through transcription and indexing projects.

Branches of the Society operate in East, West and South Norfolk, Norwich and London.  Each branch organises a varied programme of talks and meeting.  If you are interested in attending, full details of future talks are detailed in our schedule of meetings, venues and programmes

We currently have around 3,600 members, including members from as far afield as Australia and U.S.A. who share a family history connection with Norfolk.  New Members are always welcome so why not consider joining the Society and enjoy the benefits membership offers.

Kirby Hall holds the Society's library collection of parish register transcripts, monumental inscriptions, census returns, wills, family trees, pedigrees, deeds, manorial records, subsidies, photographs, police records and a wide range of published work relating to Norfolk. Records on computer, microfiche and film include parish registers, census records and IGI for the UK. Journals from other societies both in the UK and abroad are also held.

Members are positively encouraged to add to these collection by volunteering to help with transcription projects or donating copies their own Norfolk family trees both for preservation and to facilitate genealogical research by sharing information with fellow members.

We also provide a bookshop selling books published by this and other Societies and publishers specialising in family history. We mainly offer books not generally available in bookshops. The list is published annually and subsequently updated in The Norfolk Ancestor.
